This impeachment trial of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is falling apart like a cheap suit in a rainstorm. On Wednesday, frail attorney for the prosecution, Rusty Harden, notified everyone that he wanted to rest the case. That was news to the defense team led by Tony “BuzSaw” Buzbee. It was also news to the witness who had yet to be cross-examined. Well, Rusty got his wish. On Thursday, he was completely rested…from the case…from the mic….from anything that had to do with leading the effort. Not exactly the respect you thought would be shown to the leader of the anti-Paxton legal brigade. It was probably predicated on the fact that Buzbee everserated every tabloid accusation aimed at the Attorney General: newly installed granite kitchen tops, late night dark alley meetings, mysteriously paid attorneys fees for whistleblowers, etc.

 

As the trial is coming to a close, there’s one more thing to note. NBC News on Sept 4th reported that George P. Bush and Karl Rove were scheduled to testify in the trial. That was before Bush’s name surfaced from the garbage pile of poorly attempted coups. I guess the prosecution figured that because little George could never run for office again in Texas, they might as well let him scurry off into the night.
